Monimala Biswas (30), daughter of Tarun Biswas from Mathbaria in Khulna district, about 7 years ago was married to Prokash Biswas, son of Ranjan Biswas of Gonali-Nalta village in the Tala Upazila. After about one year from their wedding Puja Biswas (6) was born to them. On 20 April 2010, at noon (approximately at 12.00 pm) Jamal Gaji (son of Khokon Gaji, from the same village) kidnapped Monimala with the help of his gang while she was returning from the tube-well. Mr Prokash Biswas husband of Monimala Biswas lodged a complaint with the Tala police station against Jamal Gaji and the unknown members of his gang (case number 25). Right now that case is still running. In the meantime Jamal Gaji to save himself, married Monimala Biswas and converted her to the Muslim religion with an affidavit in the Khulna court. From then on Monimala, now known as Fatima Begum, lived at the premises of Jamal Gaji, her abductor. To be mentioned, Jamal Gaji was already married and has two children, Masud Rana (13) and Jui (9 months). After Jamal took Fatima Begum alias Monimala, the first wife left him with their two children. On 26 October 2010, Jamal calls Monimala’s mother asking for dowry money. News is received of continuous beatings and torturing. On the 28 October, Monimala is found hanging from the ceiling of Jamal’s house. Jamal says that Monimala has committed suicide. The body of Monimala has been sent to Satkhira for pathological inquiry.
